Bishop Hope Morgan Ward invites you to join her in providing food items desperately needed by the people of Sierra Leone. The Ebola crisis has left many people unable to obtain the daily food they need. The food distribution system has broken down, due to mandatory quarantines and fear. You can help by collecting and bringing requested food items to the Mission Warehouse at 3MC, between now and May 16, 2016 for packing and shipment to Sierra Leone.
Although the incidence of Ebola seems to be declining in West Africa, the human tragedy continues. Ebola survivors face ostracism and struggle to survive in communities that fear them. The United Methodist Church in Sierra Leone is trying to address this food insecurity. What better way to demonstrate the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone than a compassionate response to their need for daily bread! Bishop John Yambasu of Sierra Leone will be joining us at the NC Annual Conference in Wilmington in June. We hope to honor him before he even arrives by this outpouring of food.
What is Needed
Specific food items to be collected include: sugar, rice, dried beans, powdered milk, old fashioned oats, cooking oil, and canned meat. All the food items will be packed and sealed in 5 gallon plastic buckets. Please download the detailed Brochure with food buckets instructions for the quantities of each food item and precise packing instructions.
Delivery Dates/Location
All food items, whether packed in a plastic bucket or brought loose, to be packed later, should be delivered to the Mission Warehouse at 3MC, located outside of Goldsboro at 676 Community Drive, Goldsboro, NC, no later than May 16, 2015. Food that is not packed in buckets can always be used. A Conference Mission Work Day is scheduled for Saturday May 16, 2015, beginning at 9 AM to fill the remaining food buckets and prepare all the buckets for shipping. Financial contributions to help cover the cost of shipping may be sent to the NC Conference Treasurer and should be designated for Humanitarian and Health Outreach Shipping (#S-00276).
For more information, including hours when the Mission Warehouse will be open to accept deliveries, please contact Rev. Bill Haddock at revbillh@nccumc.org or 910-262-3831.
